Philoptochos Holy Myrrh Bearers Cultural Event
Back to photo galleries
At our first Holy Myrrhbearers Cultural event on
August 5th, we learned about Princess Ileana of Romania; granddaughter of both
Queen Victoria of Britain and Tsar Alexander II of Russia, and daughter of Queen
Maria and King Ferdinand of Romania. In 1967, she took final vows as a monastic
and became Mother Alexandra, founder and abbess of the first English-language
Orthodox women's monastery in the United States – the Orthodox Monastery of the
Transfiguration in Ellwood City, PA.
